A birth certificate, a marriage certificate or a family registration extract issued in Egypt is not automatically recognised outside Egypt. Before an employer, a consulate or a government office abroad will accept it, the document has to be attested — and the order in which that happens is what most files get wrong.
The sequence runs in one direction
Attestation is a chain, and each link depends on the one before it:
- The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs attests the document first. This is the step that makes an Egyptian document recognisable beyond Egypt’s borders.
- The requesting authority attests it second — the Saudi consulate, or the embassy of whichever country asked for the document.
Going to the consulate first does not save time. The document is returned, and the file starts again from the beginning.
Which documents this usually applies to
- Birth certificates
- Marriage certificates
- Family registration extracts
Which of these any particular file needs depends on what the receiving authority asked for. There is no single list that covers every case, and assuming one is a common reason files come back incomplete.
Where files lose the most time
- Wrong order. Presenting the document to the embassy before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- An old extract. Some authorities ask for a recently issued copy rather than one that has been in a drawer for years.
- Names that do not match. A spelling in the passport that differs from the spelling on the certificate will stop a file, and correcting it afterwards costs more time than checking it at the start.
What we handle
Golden Eagle GS issues civil registry extracts — family registration extracts, birth certificates and marriage certificates — and carries documents through the attestation chain: the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs first, then the consulate or embassy that asked for them. We also assist with issuing and renewing passports.
If you are not sure which documents your file needs, tell us which authority asked for them and what they asked for. That is usually enough to map the route before anything is submitted.
